Bright River

balancing on a rock

he pushes coarse black hair

from his eyes

the river chuckles

with my young son

his roundish hands

reach for shiny gray stones

that he shows to me

at end of day

eyes glistening

he leaves them on the earthen floor

to dry to dull memories
