Reflection

My mother's shadow

reflects in the sliding glass

it is dark and unlike the woman

who once listened to

Now I lay me down to sleep

gave goodnight hugs

and a late night glass of water

the light hovers by her shoulder

illuminates her escapist novel

the reflection of darkness is kind

to the graying tresses

and the empty eyes

cannot be seen
